For many, earning a PADI Rescue Diver Certification is the start of the pathway to a career in professional diving. DAN Diving FIrst Aid (DFA) Course
Designed for divers, dive professionals, and water enthusiasts, this comprehensive course, developed by dive medicine physicians and educators, prepares you to respond to diving injuries and general emergencies. You’ll learn:
- Basic Life Support (BLS) and CPR: Master one- and two-rescuer CPR for adults, children, and infants, plus automatic external defibrillator (AED) use.
- Emergency Oxygen Administration: Gain hands-on skills in oxygen delivery, the preferred first aid for scuba injuries like decompression illness.
- Neurological Assessments: Recognize and manage injuries with neurological implications.
- Hazardous Marine Life Injuries: Treat stings, bites, and other marine-related injuries.
- Rescue Management: Handle dive emergencies effectively.
PADI Rescue Diver Course
Take your diving to the next level with the PADI Rescue Diver Course, widely regarded as one of the most rewarding and challenging certifications. This course transforms you into a proactive, safety-conscious diver ready to prevent and manage dive emergencies. You’ll cover:
- Self-Rescue and Stress Management: Learn to stay calm and handle your own challenges underwater.
- Recognizing and Managing Diver Stress: Identify signs of panic or distress in others and intervene effectively.
- Emergency Procedures: Practice skills like assisting tired or panicked divers, managing unconscious divers, and performing in-water rescues.
- Rescue Scenarios: Apply your skills in realistic pool and open-water session at the lake, including navigation, search, and recovery techniques.
Details:
- Must be at least 12yrs old to participate.
- Must hold a minimum of PADI Advanced Open Water Certification (or equivalent from another agency).
- Successful completion of this course gives you 2 certifications: Rescue Diver and Divers Alert Network (DAN) Diving First Aid (DFA).
The course consists of 4 main phases:

Knowledge Development: We use PADI's Rescue Diver and DAN's Diving First Aid (DFA) eLearning to teach the core fundamentals of the course and prepare you for your practical classroom and in-water sessions. Total online coursework is 8-10 hours.

Classroom: You will come to a class session and will discuss the rescue dive scenarios, work through the practical portion of the DAN DFA course, and practice CPR and AED protocols. You will also learn how to setup and administer Oxygen using the appropriate mask and flow rates depending on various emergency scenarios. This class generally runs for 7-9 hours.

Confined Water Practice: The pool sessions will teach you the mechanics and skills in a fun and safe environment to effectively provide support and assistance in a diverse number of dive emergency scenarios. Our realistic simulations are designed to give you hands on experience managing these dive emergencies including: assisting tired divers, assisting panicked divers at the surface, assisting panicked divers underwater, locating missing divers, surfacing an unresponsive diver, and supplying in-water rescue breathing techniques. You'll build the skills you need to perform these tasks with calm precision.

Rescue Dives in Open Water: You will take what you mastered in the confined pool session and apply it in realistic emergency dive scenarios at Lake Pleasant.

The course cost includes the eLearning, DAN student kit, all the scuba kit rental gear needed (Wetsuit, BCD, Regulator, Computer, Tanks & Weights) all course tuition, and your certification fees and eCards. Does not include personal gear consisting of scuba rated mask, snorkel, fins and boots. Students are required to have a cutting tool, and a pocket mask for this course. All Students receive 10% off gear purchased in the shop and includes a personal fitting.
